Monba had a very good mile race at CD last fall and he closes. Of all the Derby horses working at CD this week Col. John had the best work. Beyer acknowledges this yet still tosses him.

He cites Pyro's race in the Risen Star for the way he closed. He ought to have closed. When you adjust for track speed he ran six furlongs in that race in 1:17 3/5! If he runs the first six that slow tomorrow he'll need binoculars to find the leaders. And then he'll either have to try to pick his way through a twenty horse field or go around them all. No thank you.ballyfagerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16946523913002020541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8711985.post-83483731829215514892008-05-02T13:21:00.000-04:002008-05-02T13:21:00.000-04:00With Denis of Cork what do we have: a horse with 4...With Denis of Cork what do we have: a horse with 4 lifetime starts and a poor last effort off the board. Ok, so toss that IL Derby out, then what do you have?

The Southwest back on Feb 18th with a decent win by 2 1/2 with an off the pace surge but beating a less then stellar field. Defeating Sierra Sunset and Liberty Bull, 2nd and 3rd respectively, are a notch below this field.

I like Calvin a lot but its hard see him cleaning up in the 134th Derby on DOC.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8711985.post-30115775976495307192008-05-02T12:06:00.000-04:002008-05-02T12:06:00.000-04:00Moss on Tale of Ekati's Wood effort:"Meanwhile, Ta...Moss on Tale of Ekati's Wood effort:

"Meanwhile, Tale of Ekati was ridden hyper-aggressively in the Wood Memorial, with Edgar Prado taking off after War Pass on the backstretch through pacefigs of 78-94-93-91-final 90. The way he was ridden makes Tale of Ekati better than his final figure."

That convinced me to go back and look again at Tale of Ekati. I'm in agreement that he's too slow to win, but will include him in any trifectas I end up playing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
