But I don't buy your defense or your statistical calculations.

If there have been 53 cases, that doesn't mean that all other races are definitely clean.

If one jock is caught in one race, would you presume that he had never used it in any of thousands of prior races? I love longshots but that's not one I would play.

Stevens' and Lukas' comments are not evidence that any particular jock cheated in any particular race. But those comments demonstrate to me that buzzers have been widely used in certain times and places. So why should anyone presume that most races are free of them today?

The question I have is whether buzzers are really so bad, or so much worse than whips. I haven't ridden much, but my understanding is that horses stop when you pull back on the reins because it makes the bit hurt their mouths.

Buzzers may be a fairness issue unless all the jocks have them, but are they a health/safety issue? This isn't a rhetorical question. I certainly don't want to take PETA's answer. Any horsemen/women willing to chime in?Steve in NChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13112102814276786653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8711985.post-46739291371885374552014-03-30T12:16:32.388-04:002014-03-30T12:16:32.388-04:00To be involved in the release and reporting of tha...To be involved in the release and reporting of that video, and then not give the public any greater context that you might be privy to, is journalistic malpractice. Someone should start a Twitter hashtag: #WhatJoeDrapesaid. And just tweet a bunch of little bits of things he has said or written. Maybe that would make the point.kylenoreply@blogger.com
