Hot Streak

- Nick Zito has a pretty nice 3 yo filly in In the Gold (Golden Missile), who took the Grade 2 Stonerside Beaumont at approximately 7f at Keeneland today. How good is Sis City? Zito’s filly ran 2nd to the Pool 3 favorite for the Oaks by 16 lengths in the Davona Dale, and since then is a nose away from winning two Grade 2 races, as she missed by that much in the Bonnie Miss; she’ll now head for the Kentucky Oaks. "We're going through a hot streak right now," said Zito. [Daily Racing Form] Yeah, I guess; he's even hotter than the Mets. For his $25,000 second crop sire Golden Missile (A.P. Indy), it’s his second graded stakes winner, the other being Going Wild, who I read somewhere is going to the Coolmore Lexington next weekend in an attempt to earn his way into the Derby. Lukas seems awfully determined to get that one to Kentucky despite his trouncing in the Wood.

Tomorrow is the Grade 2 Makers Mark at a mile on the turf. Artie Schiller makes his first start since finishing 12th, though by only 5 lengths, as the favorite in the BC Mile. It’s an extremely deep field, including Good Reward, who took the G1 Hollywood Derby, and Mr. Light, who took the G3 Appleton at GP. They both improved to lifetime best Beyers, 104 and 105 respectively, draw inside posts, and may be worth a look at fair prices.

- Evangeline Downs is doing a brisk casino business at its new faciity, and is already raising it's purses by 10%.

With the increase, an average of $165,000 in purses will be distributed daily, nearly triple the $63,000 daily average the track was distributing in 2003. [Thoroughbred Times]
