To accommodate construction of the racino, training hours at the Big A will be "shifted," according to a NYRA press release. That's an interesting choice of words for what is really a slight curtailment of training time.
Starting on Monday, January 10, the following changes will go into effect through Monday, February 28:Don't know why they felt the need to try and spin that. I doubt that anyone could be too upset about a relatively minor cutback for a limited amount of time in order to facilitate the slots that they've all been waiting for so long.
* There will be no Monday training at Aqueduct
* Tuesday through Sunday, training hours at Aqueduct will shift to 5:30 – 9:00 a.m. (they had previously been 5:30 – 9:45 a.m.)

Horses are equine athletes. Now the morons at NYRA have determined that Mondays are not necessary to a training schedule. When pointing for a race - at any level of competition, it's done best when the trainer decides what day to train and work his horses. Now NYRA is making that decision for the trainers at Aqueduct.
Noticed on my $2 NYRA calendar that the racing schedule has shifted in July.
For the period beginning 7/4 through the end of the Belmont meet they are going to a three day per week schedule a la Monmouth, Friday through Sunday.
This shift may be the beginning of a trend.

Figless: Here's the schedule as posted on the NYRA website. Doesn't seem to indicate a Fri-Sunday schedule, though a couple of dark Wednesdays. Note that the twilight racing is back for three days this year, because I complained about it. :-)

Alan, my calendar indicates they are dark Wednesday and Thursday, July, 6,7,13,14,20,21 as well as the usual Monday and Tuesday, perhaps a missprint or perhaps they have simply not announced this yet?
As for training hours, very few horses stabled at the Big A in winter are pointing for a specific race. Minor inconvenience.
Someone will always complain, would they prefer the project be completed later, and the slots money be delayed, for their selfish benefit?
