- In the 4th at Santa Anita, the Swingtime Stakes, Moujane (5-2) lookes like lone speed for trainer Rafael Becerra. She gave her best effort in the G2 Palomar before fading late, and should well appreciate the drop in company and cut back in distance here against a short field. Ransom Captive (3-1) drops back to what seems like a suitable level after a couple of ambitious graded stakes tries in which she ran evenly and perfectly fine; most recently just behind Moujane. Also cuts back to a mile, a distance at which she's a head shy of being three-for-three in California. Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is 0 for 13 thus far at the meeting, with many of those being well-bet; looking for this one to complete the cold exacta. Hoping that Storybook (2-1) takes the action that her morning line indicates; possible underlay in first race since an allowance win at Keeneland a year ago.

- Interesting maiden grass event in the 4th at the Meadowlands tonight. Pletcher has a pair: First-time starter Newport (7-2) is by More Than Ready, out of a Secretariat mare. But of even more interest pedigree-wise is Kusch (5-1), making his second start, and going Mott to Toddster after running up the track when debuting (at 6-1) in an off-the-turf stakes at Monmouth. Kusch is by Lemon Drop Kid, out of a stakes winning, in France, mare by Caerleon. Inbred to Tom Fool and Sir Gaylord, Kusch is from the distaff family of the G1 (Diana) winner Sand Springs, Arc de Triomphe winner Dancing Brave, and the French G1 winner Jolypha.

Manifest Destiny (6-1) debuts for trainer Joe Orseno. He's by the grass champ Cozzene, out of Glorious Lady, a French stakes winner by Wash DC Intl winner Le Glorieux. Successful Mission (9-2) tries the grass after two futile dirt tries. Little reason to believe that the switch to grass will help this half to Keyed Entry with a Tomlinson of 249, but he could take some money for Mott.
