Back From Paradise

I'll have to post some pictures from the idyllic Caribbean island nation of Antigua just to rub it in a bit. Had a great week and really relaxed, except for when I was getting scores of Rangers games. Hey, see that you got some use out of the space during the week; thanks to Walter for sitting in and to all that read and participated. All I had to do to catch up was to read my own blog. I even learned right here the news about my filly Christening's sparkling 5th best of 55 workout. Possibilities for her debut are a seven furlong race written for April 2, or a six furlong affair on April 12. Highland Cat is slated to return to action next Sunday, the 19th, in a 60-50K maiden claimer at a mile.

Have some more catching up to do and will be back a bit later.

...trainer Bob Baffert said Sunday that in addition to Bob and John, he may run the tandem of Point Determined and Point of Impact in next weekend's San Felipe Stakes..."i need a race for them, because the allowance race i wanted to go in didn't fill," Baffert said. "i was going to run them one more time and then go for a big one (for graded earnings)"...in a related matter, Baffert's other 3yo prospect, Royal Legacy, appears to be injured and is off the Derby Trail...he was entered in an allowance race about a week ago, but was an early scratch, and hasn't been seen since...no workouts, no quotes from Baffert, no nothing...color him gone...probable for the San Felipe are: A.P. Warrior, Bob and John, New Joysey Jeff, Racketeer, Refinery, Point Determined, Point of Impact, Simon Pure, and Sky Diving...

...ps...Latent Heat is off the Derby Trail as well...Frankel said he "bucked shins" in the Santa Catalina, and will be out for a while...

...well, Balance once again demonstrated her superiority over Wild Fit and the rest of the 3yo SoCal fillies...and amazingly, she did NOT go favored...once again, it was Wild Fit who went favored @ 6/5, despite never having won around two turns, and having lost to Balance last time out...on the racetrack, Balance settled well off the moderate early pace, partly because she was forced 6-wide around the first turn...but she kept to her task and gradually moved up while still wide down the backstretch, and made a 4-wide move around the turn to assume command...she was never threatened once pulling away in midstretch, and got the final sixteenth in a sparkling 6.30 seconds...she almost looks like a female version of Brother Derek, as she's now 4-for-5 around two turns (all in stakes) and never seems to run a bad one...she's also very tractable, and can run her race from on or off the pace...looks like she's gonna be hard to stop...
