- Alaazo won that allowance at Gulfstream on Monday, and here's an undefeated three-year old with the connections and bloodlines to be a nice horse. It was a professional effort in his second lifetime race, first effort against winners, and first since August. The son of AP Indy rated easily in 5th, accelerated on the turn, swung 3-4 wide around the leaders and drew away with Kent D. Not a fast race at 1:51.35; but the last 3/8ths were run in 38.38 and he was three lengths back and wide at that point. So not too shabby either.
Alaazo is out of the graded stakes winning mare Atelier, by Deputy Minister, and AP Indy/Deputy Minister is the nick that hath brought us Rags to Riches. Whereas the defending Belmont champ had a prolific producer in Best In Show as her third dam, Alaazo has another in Courtly Dee as hers.
Mott/Desormeaux also took the finale with Doctor Cal, who overcame a wide trip from the 12 post and graduated in his 5th try (second on grass). This is a Kinsman homebred by Distorted Humor, out of a Rahy mare who's a half-sister to the dam of the juvenile champion Arazi.
