- In a surprise move, Highland Cat has turned up in the entries for the sixth at Belmont on Sunday. It's a maiden special weight at 6 1/2 furlongs. I'm wondering if the heavy rain forecast for the area (which really hasn't materialized as of yet, as you know if you're watching the Yankee game) has something to do with it. It was mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Bill Turner thinks that the colt will like the slop.
Highland Cat will face seven others. Three of them have started and have a combined margin of defeat of 44 lengths in their last starts. The most expensive first timer is Great Point, a Zito-trained $450,000 2004 Keeneland September yearling who is out of a half-sister to Spain. More on this later.
