News and Notes - Oct 23

- 14 Breeders Cup candidates drilled on Sunday for Todd Pletcher.

Pletcher's newest addition, Lawyer Ron, breezed his five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 for a possible start in the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I). Flower Alley, a big disappointment this year, showed signs of life at Churchill Downs Sunday, breezing six furlongs in a bullet 1:13 2/5. [Bloodhorse]
Henny Hughes and Invasor had leisurely drills at Belmont for Kiaran McLaughlin.

- Aidan O'Brien tells the UK's Sporting Life: "[George Washington] will definitely run in the Classic and Mick (Kinane) will ride...It opens up the world if he was to win the race and he's in good form."

Thoroughbred Times reports that Paul Harley, the racing manager for Shirocco's owner, said that last year's Turf winner will probably remain in Europe and be retired, with stud plans to be announced later in the week.

I wonder if Godolphin pre-entered Discreet Cat in the Classic, as a type of "insurance policy" for Bernardini, should something unforseen happen that one before the race. Still two weeks to go, you know.
