- Bernardini will stand for $100,000, and Henny Hughes for $40,000 at Darley at Jonabel in 2007. I guess the word "redemption" has little meaning in sheikh-ese. Each of them will have well over 100 offspring each year, God willing, and each and every one of them are going to ask "Dad, why did you lose in the Breeders Cup?"
- Fusaichi Pegasus, who has had an extremely disappointing year with zero graded stakes winners has had his fee cut from $125,000 to $75,000.

In Melbourne today, it was a triumph for Japan as 106,691 people attended Flemington for a gloomy but rainless Melbourne Cup Day. Delta Blues broke clear early in the stretch and held off the challenge of Pop Rock to win by a nose. The Dance In The Dark stallion settled comfortably in second position with a lap to go, moved confidently from third through the final turn, and with Yatasuri Iwata driving hard, held on bravely at the end of the two mile event. Pop Rock (Helissio)with local rider Damien Oliver aboard, settled mid pack and made his move with a powerful late drive. He drifted in under pressure inside the final sixteenth, contacting Delta Blues' hindquarters. But he still wasn't able to grab the victory despite the six and a half pound weight advantage.
Maybe Better (Intergaze) ran a solid third backing up well from his win three days ago. Zipping (Danehill) was fourth, UK stayer Land N Stars (Mtoto) was an honest fifth and Coolmore's Yeats (Sadler's Wells) ran a gallant seventh and missing the break, copping some early interference and making a forward move at the halfway mark.
The highlight of Thursday's meeting will be the VRC Oaks (12.5 furlongs), with a great clash expected between two outstanding fillies, Miss Finland (Redoute's Choice) and Tuesday Joy (Carnegie).
I've been wondering when the FuPeg price cut would come...sure, he has some OK 2-year-olds, but that doesn't do a whole lot for me in the long run.
