Track of the Future?

- Another customer for Michael Dickinson's Tapeta surface. Golden Gate was the first track to adopt the synthetic surface, and now Presque Isle Downs, the new thoroughbred track in Erie, PA, will do the same. They need to come up with some catchier name for this stuff. We have Polytrack, becoming affectionately known as 'Poly,' or 'The Poly,' and Cushion Track, which just sounds all comfy, cozy, and safe. I don't even know how to pronounce Tapeta.

Dickinson has an interesting website devoted to the surface, where we learn that the surface has endured and remained in 'fast' condition through:

23 Periods of drought
5 Hurricanes (Floyd, Isabel, Charley, Ivan, Jeanne)
12 inces [sic] of rain in 12 hours/Hurricane Floyd
22 Floods
Snow and Ice Accumulations
Temperatures ranging from over 110 to -17 degrees
Wow, sounds like the Track of the Future to me! But tell me....can it core a apple?
